About us

A home that feels like family.

Mama Joan's Daycare is a warm, in-home daycare in Atlanta — built around real work schedules, real commutes, and the kind of personal care that's hard to find anywhere else.

Our purpose

Mama Joan’s Daycare exists to make childcare actually work around real Atlanta family life — not the other way around. So many parents are stuck choosing between a job that starts before traditional daycares open, a shift that ends after they close, or a commute that eats up the only buffer they have. We built this place to fill that gap with care that feels like family.

That’s why our hours, our shift lengths, and our scheduling rhythm are intentionally designed around commute times and real work schedules. We’re open 6 AM to 8 PM so early shifts, late shifts, overnight commutes, double-shifts, school pickups, and last-minute work changes all have somewhere to land. Short, Standard, and Extended shift options exist so you only pay for the hours you actually need — not a rigid 9-to-5 block that doesn’t match your life.

Scheduling works the same way — built around real life. Families are encouraged to submit a preferred schedule monthly so we can reserve preferred days and properly prepare staffing, but nothing is locked in: we’re fully flexible and non-contractual, so you can adjust as needs change based on availability. Weekly confirmations and payments are due each Friday for the upcoming week, keeping things smooth and fair on a first-come, first-served basis.

The story behind the name

Named in loving memory of Joan Brunson.

Joan, in her element 💛

She raised six kids of her own, but honestly, her home was open to everybody. Growing up, there were always kids around. Family, grandkids, cousins, neighbors, friends’ children — somebody was always at her house. It didn’t matter how small the apartment or house was, it always felt full of love, laughter, food, and people looking out for each other.

My grandma had a big personality. She was funny, outspoken, caring, loving, and definitely the type to tell you exactly what was on her mind. She naturally made people feel comfortable, and she always had a way of making kids feel cared for and safe.

A lot of the way I care for people comes from watching her. So when it came time for me to build something of my own, naming my daycare after her just felt right.

I want this daycare to feel warm, personal, safe, and welcoming. A place where parents feel comfortable and children feel genuinely cared for.

More than anything, I want this place to feel like family. 💛
